To help the nation get summer hobby ready, we met with former rugby player-turned-lockdown cooking pro, James Haskell who tells us about his cooking hobby and infamous chicken wings recipe via this video

‘’For those who know me, I love to BBQ! But I also have a real passion for nutrition and enjoy making super tasty healthy recipes and sharing them with my neighbours to enjoy. So, whether you’re into gardening, crafting or even cooking like me, apps like Nextdoor are great as they help you connect with others locally so you can swap skills, items and even recommendations– and what better way to take up a hobby than with other people?”

A classic revival? Our study shows that people are steering towards more traditional pastimes with cooking (25%), baking (23%), food growing (22%) and crafting (19%) amongst the most popular this summer. Some of the reasons behind the classic hobby revival include too much screen time over the past year, a desire to have always wanted to try the activity in mind and being a hobby that can be enjoyed with the family.

Try your hand at gardening with these top tips from Nextdoor member, Luke:

Have a hobby clear out! We found that 81% of Brits like the idea of being able to purchase items for their hobbies second hand from others in their community and 75% of us would happily donate our old equipment for free to give it a second lease of life and to avoid the landfill. With Nextdoor Finds, you can bag yourself a bargain from one of your neighbours and maybe even get some top tips from them on how to use it for your new hobby.

Maybe you’ll try your hand at music, or crafting – like our neighbours Harry and Michaela:

Whatever your passion, you can use Nextdoor to make new friends in your local community, find deals on second-hand items for your hobby, or even swap skills and top tips with someone nearby. Get started now and share your video or story of a new hobby on Nextdoor today!
