In the run-up to HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee we asked neighbours to share a post on Nextdoor about why they wanted to bring their community together for a Big Jubilee Lunch to be in the chance to win £200 as part of our partnership with the Eden Project.
The competition entries were so good we awarded a second winner, Karen Davies, Director of Dramatize Community Interest Charity. Dramatize runs a local tea room called Dramatize Cafe where they give students a place to learn practical skills needed to get employment. She won for her ‘village party’ where she brought neighbours and local businesses together with help from the neighbour-run village association.
“It was a fab celebration, over 200 people turned up throughout the afternoon! Many of them said they have never felt such a sense of community spirit in the square.“
Karen describes the square her business is located in as a “true community” that regularly helps each other out. The cleaners on the corner often train the students from Dramatize and the village hall opposite is home to Charlton Village Association which ensures local events have games, bunting, tables and food.
